Ayya Agganyani:

Sayalay AgganyaniAyya Agganyāni (Sayalay Aggañāṇī), born 1954 in Munich, scientist and former secretary general of the German Buddhist Union (DBU), is a German Buddhist nun in the Burmese tradition (Thilashin) and disciple of Sayadaw Dr. Nandamālābhivaṃsa.

She got a Buddha-Dhamma diploma from the International Theravāda Buddhist Missionary Universtity in Yangon, Myanmar, in 1999. Since then, she is continuing her studies mostly of Abhidhamma and with Sayadaw, also translating his courses into German and assisting him.
She herself teaches, translates and writes on Abhidhamma and Vipassanā.

in CBSShe had learned and practised meditation in Taungpulu-, Mahāsi- and Mogok-tradition. Today her meditation focuses on Cittānupassanā. But she also loves contemplations (anussatis).

Agganyani lives in Bruckmühl, South Germany, in her "Abhidhamma hermitage", and in the winter months partly in Myanmar (Burma), mostly in CBS, Sagaing, her teacher's first centre (see photo left).
Agganyani's forest kuti
Unfortunately, in early 2018 she had to give up her secluded forest kuti near Ariyavaṃsa Kyaung in Sagaing Hills (see photo at right) which had fallen victim to the new tourism boom in Myanmar and related deforestation.

In the same year she also gave up her Sāmaṇerī vows after 15½ years, took 10 precepts and lives as "Yathema Thilashin" (hermit nun) now.
